ALBUMIN DEFICIENCY
What is Albumin?
Albumin is synthesized in the liver, the most abundant blood plasma protein. Hemodynamics is an important part in providing plasma oncotic pressure.
A person may have hypoalbuminemia (or low albumin levels) for many reasons. Dietitians use the serum albumin level as an indicator of protein malnutrition, though other situations may cause a low albumin level (stress, surgery, impaired liver function or overhydration of body tissues).
How Albumin Deficiency can occur in body?
- Malnutrition
- Lack of adsorption
- The conditions increased need in the body conditions (pregnancy, hyperthyroidism etc)
- Lack of synthesis of Albumin
- Liver diseases ( acute or chronic)
- Chronic infection
- Congenital Albumin Deficiency,
- Congestive Heart failure
- İncrease in the destruction of Albumin;
- Trauma
- Infection
- Cancer
- Fever
- Antimetabolites
- Some of the hypermetabolic diseases (Cushing syndrome, preeclampsia,thyrotoxicosis etc)
- İncrease in loss of Albumin;
- Burns,
- Edema,
- Acid,
- Bleeding,
- Nephrotic Syndrome
- Enteropathy
- Trauma
- Lack of Dilutional (Giving intravenous fluids, water poisoning, psychogenic diabetes)
